After examining a number of different options for attacks from Flanders to Verdun, Ludendorff decided to make his war winning attack on the Somme front. The attack would be launched around St. Quentin. It would advance to the line of the Somme, which would then be held against any French counterattack, while the main attack continued to the west, cutting off the BEF and allowing the Germans to defeat the British before their allies could come to their aid. If things went really well, the Germans hoped to reach the sea, perhaps at Abbeville where the Somme enters the English Channel. The battle would be known as the “Kaiserschlacht”, or Kaiser’s Battle.

The signifcance is really two fold. First we have the point of view – Winning the war. The signicance for the Allied forces, is as follows: A high level meeting was held. The result of which a new commander was appointed, heding off any developing riff between allied forces. The advance lost momentum and was eventually halted.

When Operation “Michael” began, the Germans won a series of dramatic victories that pushed the British line back up to twenty miles and came dangerously close to achieving its main objectives.

If this policy had been carried through, then it is hard to see how a German breakthrough could have been prevented. Early on the morning of 25 March, Haig communicated his fears to the War Office, and requested a high level delegation visit France. He also suggested placing General Foch in overall command of Allied operations.

The required conference took place at Doullens, near Amiens, on 26 March. The French delegation could not have been any more high powered – the President, Prime Minister Clemenceau and the Minister of Munitions were joined by Foch and Pétain. The British were represented by Lord Milner, the War Minister, Gerenarl Wilson, the Chief of the Imperial General Staff and General Haig. The most outcome of the meeting was the appointment of General Foch to coordinate all Allied troops on the Western Front.

Foch’s appointment ended any danger of a rift between the allies. The German advance soon began to run out of steam, as the units involved became increasingly exhausted. Captured British supply dumps, far better provisioned than the blockaded Germans, slowed down the advance when troops settled in to forage for much needed supplies.

1) Vets do like for people to shadow them and ask intelligent questions! You need lots of experience working with animals and shadowing to get into vet school as well.

2) No, you have to be a zoologist. To get into vet school, it is helpful to major in a science like biology, but you can really major in anything as long as you take the required classes. Once in vet school, you take a bunch of different classes and can decide what type of vet you want to be. In the last year especially you to focus more on the type of vet you want to be, ie large animal (horse, farm animal) small animal (most common, dog and cat), exotic (snake, bird) or even zoo or wildlife! You can work with any type of animal.

4) Vet school is extremely difficult to get into. You must have excellent grades, lots of animal and vet experience, and good recommendations. It is a huge commitment, but if you really try you can do it. You will need to develop more people skills, but that comes with age. I was once very shy too!

5) worry yet about it! You have plenty of years left to decide if what you really want, and only college grades matter when applying to vet school.

6) Back to shadowing. You are probably too young now to shadow, I would wait until your last 2 years of high school. If you do, you will have an to watch surgery and other procedures, as well as observe appointments. Shadowing is what let me know I wanted to be a vet!

It is Pat’s birthday on November 6, and elections are the day after. It gets me thinking about a conversation I had with Pat before we joined the military. He spoke about the risks with signing the papers. How once we committed, we were at the mercy of the American leadership and the American people. How we could be thrown in a direction not of our volition. How fighting as a soldier would leave us without a voice… until we get out.

Much has happened since we handed over our voice:

Somehow we were sent to invade a nation because it was a direct threat to the American people, or to the world, or harbored terrorists, or was involved in the September 11 attacks, or received weapons-grade uranium from Niger, or had mobile weapons labs, or WMD, or had a need to be liberated, or we needed to establish a democracy, or stop an insurgency, or stop a civil war we created that can’t be called a civil war even though it is. Something like that.

Somehow America has become a country that projects everything that it is not and condemns everything that it is.

Somehow our elected leaders were subverting international law and humanity by setting up secret prisons around the world, secretly kidnapping people, secretly holding them indefinitely, secretly not charging them with anything, secretly torturing them. Somehow that overt policy of torture became the fault of a few “bad apples” in the military.

Somehow back at home, support for the soldiers meant having a five-year-old kindergartener scribble a picture with crayons and send it overseas, or slapping stickers on cars, or lobbying Congress for an extra pad in a helmet. It’s interesting that a soldier on his third or fourth tour should care about a drawing from a five-year-old; or a faded sticker on a car as his friends die around him; or an extra pad in a helmet, as if it will protect him when an IED throws his vehicle 50 feet into the air as his body comes apart and his skin melts to the seat.

Somehow the more soldiers that die, the more legitimate the illegal invasion becomes.

Somehow American leadership, whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor of its soldiers on the ground.

Somehow those afraid to fight an illegal invasion decades ago are allowed to send soldiers to die for an illegal invasion they started.

Somehow faking character, virtue and strength is tolerated.

Somehow profiting from tragedy and horror is tolerated.

Somehow the death of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people is tolerated.

Somehow subversion of the Bill of Rights and The Constitution is tolerated.

Somehow suspension of Habeas Corpus is supposed to keep this country safe.

Somehow torture is tolerated.

Somehow lying is tolerated.

Somehow reason is being discarded for faith, dogma, and nonsense.

Somehow American leadership managed to create a more dangerous world.

Somehow a narrative is more important than reality.

Somehow America has become a country that projects everything that it is not and condemns everything that it is.

Somehow the most reasonable, trusted and respected country in the world has become one of the most irrational, belligerent, feared, and distrusted countries in the world.

Somehow being politically informed, diligent, and skeptical has been replaced by apathy through active ignorance.

Somehow the same incompetent, narcissistic, virtueless, vacuous, malicious criminals are still in charge of this country.

Somehow this is tolerated.

Somehow nobody is accountable for this.

In a democracy, the policy of the leaders is the policy of the people. So don’t be shocked when our grandkids bury much of this generation as traitors to the nation, to the world and to humanity. Most likely, they will come to know that “somehow” was nurtured by fear, insecurity and indifference, leaving the country vulnerable to unchecked, unchallenged parasites.

Luckily this country is still a democracy. People still have a voice. People still can take action. It can start after Pat’s birthday.

Leverage is definetely one of the benefits in investing in the forex market (it can also be a curse if someone doesn't know what they are doing).
